Education and Institution

FCE assisted South Western School District in converting their existing grass football stadium field to artificial turf, enabling their student athletes to thrive on the playing field while cutting costs in maintenance and serving as a revenue generator for years to come. FCE provided civil engineering design and permitting services, municipal coordination, contract administration and management services.

FCE was contacted in the spring about the prospect of accomplishing the project during the upcoming summer which required an accelerated permitting and bidding timeline to allow fall sports to begin on schedule. FCE was able to obtain the required municipal and NPDES Permitting in about 3 months in order to allow the project to be completed in time for the first football game of the year. FCE was responsible for the design of the subsurface drainage system and the surface profile and cross section. FCE prepared the required documents to place the project out for public bid and handled the project management with the contractor from the start of the project all the way through project closeout.

The following year, the school district once again contacted FCE to design a complex with 2 multipurpose fields complete with lights and spectator seating. This much larger project required, an NPDES Permit, coordination with an athletic lighting design consultant, and the preparation and management of the permitting, bidding, and construction phases.

FCE was responsible for onsite inspections during construction of both projects to ensure that the project was constructed in a manner that met the design plans and specifications. These inspections allowed the team to keep abreast of any issues discovered during construction and design any changes that were required as a result to keep any change orders under control.
