Project Overview
First Capital Engineering has served as the civil engineer for many Sheetz stores throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, including the location in Mt. Holly Springs, Cumberland County, PA.
FCE provided the land surveying, design, civil engineering and subdivision/land development plans for a new 6,022 sq. ft. convenience store with gas canopy containing 12 fueling stations.
This project was unique because the proposed store and associated improvements had to be able to be constructed while keeping the existing store operational. The project required coordination with UGI to relocate a gas main that was located in the middle of the proposed building footprint. The relocation required extensive mapping of the underground utilities in order to successfully route the new gas line around the site.
FCE was required to obtain Highway Occupancy Permits from PennDOT for two driveways. Obtaining the permits was a delicate situation due to the Borough’s concerns regarding potential conflicts with truck traffic and an existing traffic signal mast arm. Through thorough computer modeling of the intersection and an analysis of the traffic flow in the area, FCE was successful in proving to the Borough that this would not be an issue. A barrier was designed to protect the signal pole as an additional safety measure to satisfy the Borough.
