Market Street & Mt. Zion Road Improvements, York County, PA
Traffic Planning
Project Overview
Traffic congestion and safety issues associated with the intersection of Market Street and Mount Zion Road in Springettsbury Township have been concerns of Township residents and officials for several years. The purpose of this project was to provide additional capacity to a failing intersection thereby improving overall traffic flow and safety.
As the Township Engineer for Springettsbury, First Capital Engineering, along with state and local entities, began the planning and engineering process for implementing improvements to mitigate or eliminate these issues within the Township.
This project involved the addition of a turning lane from eastbound Market Street (S.R. 0462) to southbound Edgewood Road (S.R. 0024), an additional turning lane from southbound Mt. Zion Road (S.R. 0024) to eastbound Market Street (S.R. 0462), grading of the site, a four-foot wide concrete sidewalk, streetlights, traffic signals, storm-sewer system and accessible ramps.
FCE completed a topographic survey of the site, prepared the construction drawings including all sidewalk, driveway crossing, storm-sewer system and grading design and provided complete contract administration.
