Gateway Gettysburg – Straban Township, Adams County, PA

Project Overview
The driving force behind the development was the historic link to the Gettysburg area and the large number of tourists that visit the area every year. FCE designed the project as a destination stop that complements the existing area’s attractions. In addition, the conference center added a dimension that currently did not exist in the Gettysburg area and used the central location of Gettysburg in relation to the large metropolitan centers of the Mid-Atlantic region to attract additional visitors to the area.
The project had many educational aspects as well – from monuments to 3-D interactive learning experiences – Gateway Gettysburg offers something for everyone. Period style site lighting was designed to be provided throughout the pedestrian areas and the Central Green of Gateway Gettysburg. The Central Green was designed as a common gathering place for all of the visitors to Gateway Gettysburg just as older towns were also once designed. Tree lined streets created a welcome environment for pedestrians and fencing and stacked stone walls were designed to be placed along the entrance drives to convey the character of the Gettysburg of an earlier era. These features, along with appropriate landscaping, were added to establish an overall theme to Gateway Gettysburg.
