Land Survey Field Technician

First Capital Engineering, Inc., a successful multi-disciplinary firm with excellent client relationships, seeks an energetic, Land Survey Instrument Operator. Our staff is the key to our success. This individual shall team with other in-house professionals to offer superior services while working in an enjoyable environment. Positions not only have opportunities for advancement but also have the opportunity to be mentored by various Registered Professionals and/or participate in mentoring other team members.

Instrument Operators must have knowledge of and be able to operate total stations, Robotic total stations, GPS, Carlson data collector, and automatic levels. Computer skills involved in the submittal of daily files including downloading of data, preparation/organization of field sketches and digital photographs, completion of daily checklists and timesheets, and vehicle navigation are required. Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Navigation programs and Carlson Data Transfer a plus. Must be able to pass a drug screen, background check and have a satisfactory driving record. Position does include some out of town travel for which meal per diem and lodging are provided. Competitive salary with benefits and overtime opportunities are provided.

Key Responsibilities

· Assist Party Chief in researching and gathering information

· Clear line using a machete

· Locate boundary corners using a magnet location device

· Properly enter data in the form of coordinates, angles and distances, offsets and field codes

· Ensure truck is fully equipped daily

· Interact with clients and neighbors in a polite and respectful manner

· Use a maul/sledgehammer to put stakes, nails and rebar in ground

Skills / Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of basic math (addition/subtraction, multiplication and division)
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Motivation to follow instructions completely and accurately while working in rough terrain and inclement weather
  • Must possess valid PA drivers license

Physical Demands

· Work requires using a machete, shovel and sledgehammer or other appropriate tools

· Lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. over rough terrain

· Hand eye coordination is necessary to operate various pieces of field equipment

· Sitting, standing, walking, using hands/fingers to feel or operate objects, tools, or controls

· Occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and smell

· Must be able to get in and out of vehicle multiple times a day and drive 30 to 150 miles daily

· Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus

Work Environment

· Works outside in all weather conditions, possibly for extended periods of time

· The terrain may be rough, steep, wet, or swampy.

· Vegetation may be dense, and insects, snakes or animals may be encountered
